SAMMI KAO or 高胜美 (Gao Shengmei), born on January 27, 1969 in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan Province, is a Taiwanese female singer and songwriter[27]. She made her debut in 1985 with the release of her first Mandarin album "Yuan". The album "Where Seagulls Fly, Colorful Clouds Fly" was published in February 1989. This album has the best sales performance in the mainland market [1]. In February 1990, the album "Six Dreams" was published. The album "The New Legend of White Snake" was published in December 1992. In 1992, she won the Best Female Mandarin Song Singer Award at the 4th Taiwan Golden Melody Awards for "Crying Sand" [2]. She was the first counter-attack singer to become popular from Southeast Asia to the island of Taiwan. In 2005, she held a solo concert at the Beijing Workers' Stadium[3][4]. Since her debut, Gao Shengmei has released 59 albums and more than 600 singles[5]. From 1993 to 1994, Gao Shengmei was the singer and queen who sang the most Qiong Yao TV dramas because she sang the lead in many Qiong Yao TV dramas[6].
